Attic insulation in South Gate CA - an even layer over a sealed attic floor
Hot upstairs rooms and a climbing power bill usually start in the attic. We check what's there, then seal and top it up.

Does your South Gate attic need more insulation?
Attic insulation in South Gate is loose fill, such as blown cellulose or fiberglass, spread across the attic floor so your house keeps summer heat out and winter warmth in.
Most people call me because part of the house never feels right, or because they've bought an older place and have no idea what's sitting in the attic. The price mostly moves with the size of the attic floor, how much sealing it needs and whether old insulation has to come out first, while the schedule turns on anything that has to be fixed before we start, and you'll get your own figure from the estimate once I've been up there.
Why South Gate homeowners call us about their attics
The owner climbs into your attic
I come out to look at the job myself and then work alongside our crew on it. The person who looked over your attic is the one making sure it gets done that way.
Learned the trade in South Gate
I learned insulation on other crews around South Gate and started our business here in 2020. Six years on, careful attic and crawl space work is what we're best known for.
Licensed and fully insured
We're licensed and fully insured. Before anyone works in your attic, ask for what South Gate asks of a contractor pulling a permit, a state license card, ID and proof of workers comp.
What matters most up there is doing things in the right order, so call (213) 329-0381 or send us a message and I'll come take a look.
How we handle attic insulation
The first thing I check is how deep the old insulation sits against the joists, because sometimes there's already enough and you don't need us. When there isn't, we start with air sealing, which means closing the gaps around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch, because insulation laid over open gaps just has a draft running through it. It makes sense to do both at once, since the attic floor is open and we're already up there. Then we blow in loose fill through a hose, keep the eave vents clear so the attic can still breathe, and carry an even layer all the way out to the top of the outside walls, where coverage usually runs thin.
Sometimes the attic is only part of the story. If drafts are also coming through walls and floors, home insulation looks at the whole house, and blown-in insulation covers loose fill in other spots a hose can reach, like a closed-off ceiling over the garage.
Top up what's already there
This suits an attic where the old fill is dry and clean but too shallow. We seal the floor and blow the new layer right over it, so nothing usable gets thrown out.
Clear it out and start over
This suits an attic where the old fill is soaked, moldy or full of droppings. New insulation on top would only bury the problem, so the old material comes out first.
Leave it alone for now
This suits an attic that already has plenty, or one with a leak or wiring problem to fix first. I'll tell you that straight rather than sell you work that won't help.
How can you tell your attic insulation isn't doing its job?
Hot rooms upstairs
The upstairs bedrooms stay warm long after the sun goes down. That usually means heat is soaking through a thin attic floor, and every summer you wait, the AC works harder to keep up.
The room over the garage
One room, often the one over the garage, runs hot in summer and cold in winter. Its ceiling is usually short on insulation, and the power bill pays for that every month.
Thin fill near the walls
Through the hatch, the fill looks deep in the middle and thin near the outside walls. That's backward, and those edges keep pulling heat into the rooms below until they're covered.
Matted or stained insulation
Old fill that's flattened, water-stained or full of droppings has stopped doing much. It usually points to a leak or pests, and both spread and cost more to clean up the longer they sit.
What happens after you call about your attic?
Call and I come look
Call or send a message, then I come out, look over the attic and walk you through what I found and what I'd take care of first. You get your estimate from that visit.
We seal and insulate
If you go ahead, we sort out any permit the job needs, and anything that has to be fixed first gets done before insulation goes in. Then I work alongside our crew sealing and blowing in the new layer.
Walk the finished attic together
When we're done, I walk the finished job with you at the hatch so you can see the depth reaching out to the edges. We clean up the hatch area and the room below before leaving.
Attic insulation questions, answered
These are the questions I hear most about South Gate attics. If yours isn't here, call or send a note about your house and I'll answer it.
How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?
If your insulation sits level with or below the floor joists, so you can easily see them, you should add more. If it's well above the joists, you probably have enough, and adding more may not pay for itself. A flashlight at the hatch is enough to check before you call.
How much does attic insulation cost in South Gate?
Attic insulation installation in the Los Angeles area usually costs about $1 to $4 per square foot, and that's the going rate for the work, not a quote from us. Where a job lands depends on things like whether old insulation has to come out and how many gaps need sealing. Your own price comes from the estimate after I've seen the attic.
What is the best way to prepare an attic for new insulation?
Fix a leaking roof, reroute any bathroom fan that vents into the attic, and deal with live knob and tube wiring or vermiculite insulation before anything new goes in. An unvented kerosene heater or gas fireplace in the house is also a reason to stop first. Those fixes come before the insulation, so plan them into your budget.
What license does an insulation contractor need in California?
California's C-2 Insulation and Acoustical class covers contractors who install insulation for heat or sound control. When you check a contractor's license card, that's the class to look for.
Do I need a permit for attic insulation in South Gate?
South Gate's Building and Safety Division says permits are typically required for home improvement projects, though its list names re-roofing rather than attic insulation. When a job needs one, we pull it and set up the inspections, and if we're not sure, we check with the city for your address before work starts. You can call Building and Safety about permits and inspections at (323) 563-9549, Monday through Thursday.
Do I have to leave the house while my attic is insulated?
Usually not for blown-in work, since the crew stays up in the attic and at the hatch. Keep kids and pets away from the hatch until we've cleaned up, because the air there gets dusty while the fill goes in.
